Region 6 Opportunities

Non-Renewal Members

For members who choose not to renew their IEEE affiliation, Region 6 provides guidance on how to wrap up membership benefits and stay connected with the broader community. While non-renewal means losing access to certain IEEE resources and programs, individuals are encouraged to explore volunteer opportunities, alumni networks, and public events to maintain professional engagement. Region 6 also offers information on rejoining IEEE in the future, ensuring that past members can easily resume involvement and benefit from IEEE’s career, technical, and community-building activities when they are ready.

STEM & K-12 Activities

IEEE Region 6 encourages members to engage in STEM and K-12 outreach to inspire the next generation of engineers and technologists. Through volunteers, student branches, and local sections, Region 6 supports activities like classroom visits, robotics competitions, maker fairs, and hands-on workshops that introduce young learners to science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. These efforts help build curiosity, provide role models, and create pathways for students to pursue STEM education and careers while strengthening community ties and advancing IEEE’s mission of fostering technological literacy.

Humanitarian Activities

IEEE Region 6 encourages volunteers to participate in humanitarian activities that apply engineering and technology to address critical global and local challenges. Through programs such as IEEE SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) and community-based projects, members can collaborate on solutions that improve quality of life, promote sustainability, and support underserved populations. These efforts empower volunteers to combine technical skills with compassion, making a tangible impact while advancing IEEE’s mission to use technology for the benefit of humanity.

Mentoring

IEEE Region 6 places a strong emphasis on mentoring as a way to support professional and personal growth within its community. Through structured and informal mentoring opportunities, experienced professionals guide students and early-career members as they navigate academic challenges, career decisions, and skill development. By fostering meaningful relationships across generations of engineers and technologists, Region 6 mentoring helps build confidence, expand networks, and strengthen the overall success of volunteers, members, and future leaders in the STEM fields.

Senior Member Elevations

IEEE Region 6 actively supports members pursuing Senior Member elevation, a prestigious professional milestone recognizing significant performance and maturity in engineering, science, and technology. Volunteers within the region guide applicants through the nomination process, share resources and tips, and participate as references or reviewers to help candidates meet the advancement criteria. By encouraging and assisting members with Senior Member elevation, Region 6 strengthens professional credibility, enhances leadership opportunities, and celebrates the achievements of experienced practitioners in the technical community.

Section Opportunities

IEEE Region 6 offers a variety of Section Opportunities designed to help local units grow, innovate, and better serve their members and communities. These opportunities include access to funding for professional and outreach activities, support for student and volunteer engagement, and resources for organizing events, workshops, and community initiatives. By leveraging these programs, sections can strengthen their impact, build local leadership, and create meaningful experiences that advance IEEE’s mission throughout the Western United States.

Become A Volunteer

IEEE Region 6 welcomes members to Become a Volunteer and actively contribute to the growth and success of the engineering community across the Western United States. Volunteers can engage in a wide range of activities—supporting events, mentoring students, leading technical or outreach initiatives, and helping shape local section programs. By volunteering, members gain leadership experience, expand their professional networks, and make a meaningful impact within IEEE and the broader community while advancing their own personal and career development.
